180° connect

180 connect gif

180° connect is a snappy, straightforward version of the classic board game Connect 4, but with a crank-powered twist: you can trade a turn for a LITERAL turn of the board. A spin of the crank flips the whole thing 180 degrees, and all the checkers slide up the channels to be upside-down from where you originally dropped them. It adds a whole new way to trick someone beyond the “got ‘em diagonally” route.

You can also play “Classic” mode with no crank powers at all, or “Exchange” mode, where the crank rotation swaps who is in charge of which color. A setting lets you adjust how often you can use the crank abilities, so there’s a big meta-game there, especially when playing the two-player hotseat mode. There are three different CPU difficulty levels for solo play, but since you always get to go first and can utilize the crank-based board-flipping, none of them are too difficult, actually. (Or maybe I’m just really good at Connect 4.) Playing against a real player is where this game will really shine, and there’s practically no loading time or any kind of fluff at all, so this could fill a flight or backseat car trip well.

It originally released quite a while ago, but the developer has made some updates — like adding achievements, CPU difficulty levels, and the “Exchange” crank mode — to create this final form. It’s Connect 4 flipped on its head (literally), so find someone that’s not a sore loser and try a few games with them!
