Totally Accurate Kissing Booth Simulator
The “accurate” here isn’t, “how realistically does this game simulate kissing.” Instead, the accuracy is all about how good you are at lining up your target – in this case, two lips on a randomly generated face at your for-donations-only kissing booth. Your ex in the game also seems to have their own booth? The point is to do the most accurate kisses and earn the most tips for a randomized charity.
There’s a lot of random in here, too. Each of the faces is a random assortment of features (over 250,000 possible combinations, according to the Catalog listing), and it kind of reminded me of some of the aliens in Mars After Midnight. A round is about three minutes long, and you’ll be presented with one face after another. First step is to line up the kiss with the d-pad as the lips move around the screen, in a way that kind of feels like you’re sniping enemy soldiers in Metal Gear Solid and you forgot your diazepam. Try to get those lips right in the middle.
Next, you’ll use the crank to regulate the pressure in a way that resembles the fishing game from Stardew Valley – there’s a vertical bar on the side of the screen and you need to keep the fluctuating level within certain parameters. Keep it in the right spot longer to earn more tips and place higher on the global online leaderboards. Kiss as many as you can before the round is up, as accurately as you can!
There’s also a “kiss diary” with a number of secret crushes, and when they show up at your booth, make sure you don’t biff it on those ones. Three accurate kisses with a crush and they’ll be yours FOREVER, but miss too many and they’ll never talk to you again.
The faces are really wacky. I never thought it’d be so hard to kiss someone with a mustache. Where are the lips even? Is this what my wife has to deal with every day??? It’s possible, but without the facial hair I look like a tall baby, so that’s a risk we’ll have to take.
It’s not a particularly long or involved game, but the randomness means you’re always seeing a new face, and you never know what your ex will say at the start of your next round, either. And nailing that perfect kiss, getting you one step closer to the top of the leaderboards? I mean, it’s not as nice as real kissing, but it’s cool to feel good at something. Pull that out on your next date and see if it scores you some points!
